An Overview of Aquilan history

Not all of the House of Aquila have yet been claimed. We produce a chart here, below, for the better understanding of the Houses, their symbols, and their status (claimed, unclaimed, defunct). Any House that is unclaimed, or whose head is unnamed is up for playing. All the defunct Houses fall into this category.

1. Houses named but missing their Heads or Head players are marked thus: (o)

2. Unclaimed Houses, whose names are subject to change by the claimant, are marked: *

3. Defunct Houses, whose names are subject to change by their claimants, are marked: (x)

4. Houses whose condition is uncertain are marked: +

Other important notes:

The name of the House, i.e. Anderon or Bahlmis, is NOT the name of the animal.

Example: Vladimontone (the Ram) is not the name of the House whose emblem is the Ram. De Torre (the Tower) is not the name of the House whose emblem is the Tower. Those houses are Hoberty and Creoni, respectively.

About last names:

Basil Mederes-Bahlmis, or Michael Ream-Cadele, who are (were) both members of House Bahlmis (and whose stories appear in the Fall and Rise of House Bahlmis), have not taken their House names as their last names, outright, but this is unusual. For the most part, the member of a House will take the name of his House as his last name.

In this respect, it is best to think of the Houses as families, or households. John, Lord Smith has a son, whose name is also Smith. The family has an arms, and their heraldic symbol is a crescent moon. They may be called Moons, or the Moon Family, or the Moon House, by someone talking about them in third-person, but you would never call a Smith "Lord Moon", or "Lord of House Moon," because neither his name, nor his House's name is Moon.

This can be confusing, especially concerning the Dragon House, because we have often called it, in and off the list, just that: the Dragon House. This is allowable, as long as it is third-person. It must also be remembered that no one had yet claimed the House when this was done, and so no name had yet been given it when those posts were written, and therefore a distinctive third-person reference had to be made to indicate particularly which House or Lord was being addressed.

Looking To:

It has not yet been decided completely which Minor Houses look to which Major Houses, but a chart follows, here, with the unknowns indicated. The House Minor is on the left, and the House Major to which it looks is on the right:
