House History

Atropos, Duke of Aquila, Lord Maun
Born: 3465
More information about Atropos, Duke of Aquila, will appear shortly.
Nira, (née Anderon) Duchess of Aquila (his first wife)
Born: 3472
Lady Nira Anderon was the oldest daughter of the Anderons. The pinnacle of the family ambition seemed reached when Nira married the young Duke Atropos. However, although Nira achieved a reputation for piety and good works, becoming extremely popular with the people and known as 'the Good Duchess', the marriage was without issue, and Atropos eventually set Nira aside so that he could marry his pregnant mistress, Lady Lilly Clover.
Unbeknownest to either of them, however, Nira too was pregnant, and subsequently gave birth to her son Decuma. Some people hold that Nira's son, not Lilly's, is the true heir.
Nira susequently married Farquar, Lord Lagoran, the man with the most evil reputation on Aquila - although this was somewhat mitigated by his leading role in recovering Jack Kennington-Anderon and Salla Lasse from the kidnap attempt in 3501.
Decuma (Anderon) Maun
Born: 3500
Decuma is Nira's son by Atropos, conceived during their marriage but born after Atropos had set her aside in favour of Lilly Clover. Decuma's status in regard to the Dukedom is therefore held to be dubious.
He was born shortly after his half-brother Harry, and immediately christened with the names that the dying Atropos had instructed his heir should bear. As a child, he was brought up to believe that he was the rightful Duke, although his mother at that time made no attempt to press the claim. After his mother married Farquar, Lord Lagoran, he was brought up in the Lagoran household, being educated by his private tutor, John Hoberty.
More recently, he has travelled extensively offworld, completing his education and also laying a petition in Nova Roma that the church should invalidate the separation between his parents, and legitimise him (thus clearing the ground for him to assume the Dukedom).
Of average height, dark, and handsome, Decuma is the breathing definition of sartorial elegance and aristocratic bearing with - should he care to exert it - considerable powers of charm.
Lilly, (née Clover) Duchess of Aquila (his second wife)
Born: 3483
Lilly was the only daughter of the late Lord Clover and his wife Harriet. Their ambitions pushed their innocent seventeen year-old daughter into an affair with Duke Atropos. When she became pregnant, Atropos set aside his wife Nira (who was believed to be barren) in order to marry Lilly and legistimise their offspring (an act over dubious legality under Catholic law).
After Atropos' assassination, and Decuma's (Harry's) birth, Lilly eventually remarried Lucien, Lord Tremontaine, and has two children by him, Alexander and Renata.
Decuma (Harry) Maun, Lilly's son
Born: 3500
The son of the assassinated Duke Atropos and Lilly Clover, Harold, Harry
to most, was born into tumult and confusion, as he was born on the same
day as his father's assassination, and his birth was soon followed
hereafter by the birth of his half brother Decuma Anderon.
Harry grew up in Tremontaine after the remarriage of his mother to Lord
Lucien, focusing on study, scholarship and diplomacy, as befits a
putative heir to the lost Lord Maun. With a knack for
understanding and feeling what other people's feel, and a fliratious
streak to match his keen intellect, his duty and determination to
succeed his father are well known to all.
Harry has been offworld to round his education, growing
and learning as much as possible in preparation for his
upcoming age of majority. While lacking the keenly honed
tongue of some of his relations, he is nevertheless far
more likely to think than to fight his way out of a
situation.
Harold is friendly and companionable to his Tremontaine relations, even
while all too aware of the role he has to come in the upcoming
disputed succession with his counterpart in name.
Cardinal Demosthenes Maun (deceased)
Born:
More information about Cardinal Demosthenes Maun will appear shortly.
Xanda de Corven , Provost of the Women's College
Born: 3453
Xanda de Corven, a descendant of House Maun, has lived an interesting and varied life, both within her academic career and outside it.
Not only was she one of the first women to achieve distinction in the field of xeno-sociology on Aquila (an expertise that led to considerable academic advancement), she was also chosen to act as the Aquilan guide of a visiting deputation from the Efrosian government in 3498, and in the capacity met Tyrr'l, the Efrosian Ambassador.
The two of them became lovers and, in the course of a journey to Earth, married. Their journey eas never completed, however, because of an attack by space pirates who kidnapped several passengers from the ship including Lady Renalda Anderon, Lord Loric Carlysle and Gallfrey, the Aquilan Ambassador to Earth. After this incident, the Efrosians returned to Aquila. The main ship has long since gone of to Earth, but Tyrr'l has remained as the Efrosian Ambassador on Aquila, with his wife.
In the intervening years, Xanda has become the Provost of the Women's College. But in some circles, her strange late marriage still means that she is held in some suspicion - especially as she has borne a half-alien daughter, Sienna.
Sienna de Corven-Tyrr'lsora
Born: 3505
Sienna is the daughter of Xanda de Corven and her alien huband Tyrr'l, the Efrosian. She has spent recent years with her father's family in Efrosia.
More information to follow shortly.
Maple (Nerina Maun)
Born: 3465
Maple, slave to the Mauns, later freed to become the wife of Gallfrey, Second Minister of Aquila (and himself a former slave of Anderon). Maple was, however, the secret twin sister of Atropos.
More information to follow shortly.
