Offworlder Characters :
Pieter Rassilov Petravich
Cardinal Michale Fiore
Deacon Ronan O'Byrne
Pieter Rassiliov Petravich
Born:
Pieter (or Piotyr) Rassiliov Petravich was born in
the Ukraine on Earth. At some point he entered into
the Imperial Service and became an assassin, or was
already an assassin when he was recruited. This is
all he knows about his life before waking up in a
hospital in the Ukraine over thirty years ago. His
memories lost, he eventually put together a quiet life
as an Imperial clerk before leaving Earth and, on the
recommendation of a friend, Finding employment with
the KLO. For five years he lived on Gehenna, before
spending a year on Aquila.
His time on Aquila was extremely eventful, he was
unable to save Duke Atropos Maun from assassination,
but was responsible for the death of the Duke's
assassin, when both he and the Assassin fell through a
glass dome after fighting on the rooftops of the city. He was later involved in the search for Jack
Kennigton and Salla Lasse, infiltrating the Aquilan
underworld. During the rescue of the children
organised by Lord Lasse, Petravich was believed to
have been killed, but found washed up on the riverbank
many days later.
During his time on Aquila, Petravich became the lover
of Anna Le Cleche, much to the disapproval of Lord
Tremontaine. He left Anna, and Aquila, to follow Lord
Lasse to Gehenna, where he remained in service for the
next twenty five years.
He has no idea of what happened to him during the
years from when he was born to when he woke up in the
Ukraine. As advanced Gehennan medicine has estimated
his genetic age to be 64, this leaves a huge gap in
his early life. A gap they may one day be filled for
better or for worse.
Cardinal Micahle Fiore, OSFD, Legati a Latere of Nova Roma
(5'10, 180#)
Born:
Micahl's dark hair has already begun greying at the temples. He keeps
himself clean shaven. He's a lithe, swimmer's build and strong legs
from his love of riding. Formal occasions demand his full vestments,
but more often he's found in white slacks and a long red coat with
buttons the length of his torso. He rides in black pants with high
boots and a red coat. While a healthy 42, the Holy Curia has access
to rejuvenation treatments and pharmotherapy that gives Micahl a much
younger appearance. His vanity allows him to keep the grey as it adds
to a diplomat's distinguished air.
Nones Martius Anno DCCXXXII
Born to Angela Rosa Fiore (nee Solatario) a new refugee on Nova
Roma. She had fled the eugenic purges of Calla IV with her husband
Anthony, who was injured defending the household of Archbishop
Augustine. Anthony did not survive the the journey to Nova Roma, the
new settlement, soon to be the universal seat of the Vatican. It had
been established only a few months before and was still an untamed
paradise. His Eminence took Angela into his household, and in time
looked on young Micahl as the son he could never have.
c. DCCXL
Young Micahl begins at the Nova Seiss Salle. He finishes his daily
chores in the stables of now Cardinal Augistine's estates and rides
his pony to his lesson. Karl was once one of the Pontiff's own
guards, but since he lost use of his left eye he wasn't fit for duty.
It was a shame that cyber-augmentation was against the regulations
for the Guards, but Karl had never complained. He took his role as
fencing master as serious as his previous duties protecting the Holy
Father. He would train young Micahl in both powered and archaic
blades, owing to the belief that not all planets had such powered
weapons.
Ante Diem X Kalendas Februarius Anno DCCLXXIV
Bishop Micahl Fiore is appointed Legati a Latere, and in turn is
granted the rank of cardinal. His dispatch is to travel to the world
of Aquilla, ascertain the current religious and political climate and
the situation surrounding a question of inheritance of the world's
throne. He is briefed personally by the Pope before being allowed to
get his affairs in order for the journey.
Deacon Ronan O'Byrne
Born:
Ronan came up from one of the poorer neighborhoods of Morne, in a community of
descendants of refugees from the sinking of Dublin. Father unknown, mother
deceased, he was supported by a loose network of kind neighbors and an
assortment of petty crimes until, at age 15, he was taken under the wing of an
idealistic and increasingly influential parish priest. His energy and street
smarts became focused on better goals, and he actually became something of a
peacemaker amid the rival youth gangs of his home city. When Father Walsh was
elevated to Bishop, he brought Ronan with him and saw to his education. The
youth never quite lost his downside edge, though, and declined to pursue
ordination, adding perhaps an Augustinian 'but not yet' to some of his prayers.
Though he did perhaps comfort some few tragically young widows during his
service to the Church on Morne, his discretion was admirable and his good works
unimpeachable even though his methods of outreach to the disadvantaged youth of
his flock were sometimes unorthodox.
Walsh became archbishop some years later, and was in an excellent position
thanks to his closeness to Morne's new cardinal to exercise his patronage and
secure Deacon O'Byrne a position on Nova Roma, in the Holy See itself. Five
years of the outward calm of Vatican life have somehow failed to quite smooth
the roughness of Ronan's edges, and this has been all to the good, as the
Vatican Tribunal has occasionally needed an investigator and discreetly
forceful right arm to ensure that the outward air of peace is undisturbed.
