About Lucas

Lucas is played by Alan Cumming

Lucas St. Just, son of Cyril St. Just, Marquis de St. Cyr, of France and Princess Florimel of Amber.

Lucas St. Just was born of his mother's liaison with a French nobleman in the years leading up to the French Revolution. His father was executed as a traitor to the nation when he was a young man; he and his mother fled France.

Lucas encountered most of his uncles and aunts in the shadow of his mother's exile or, after his Patternwalk, in the Golden Circle. He spent some time in Amber, unacknowledged, before Eric seized power. He traveled in the Golden Circle for most of Eric's reign, but returned in time for the last of the assaults via the Black Road.

Lucas is not a warrior; he remained in Amber when his mother left with Benedict. Publicly, he's spent the Regency involved in trade and acting as liaison with the nobles of Garnath and, for a while, with the stranded Golden Circle ambassadors. He carried out the first successful trade mission after the Sundering. He was a loyal and well-respected member of the Regency Council.

Lucas is known as a rake. He is the most fashionable man in Amber, and that includes his liaisons. It is believed he is bisexual. His detractors say he sleeps with men, women, and goats all at once, but that's certainly an exaggeration. He did seduce Solace Vesper and let himself be coerced into marrying her after he made her pregnant. They now have two children, Hope and Philippe. He also maintains a mistress at his club, Red Mill: the courtesan Silken.

Most recently, he was injured in the attack on the coronation masquerade. He is currently under the medical care of his mother and wife, under Gerard's direction.

What people say about Lucas ...

Lucas is not stupid. He's bitchy and foppish, but he hasn't survived as
long as he has without knowing just how far to push, and where *not* to
push. He was the first of the family out on the trade expeditions and he's
been involved in negotiations throughout Amber. He knows a lot of people, more than he shows. He presents a front that is very easy to
under-estimate. His mother is the same way.
-- Jerod, to Conner

Lucas is Flora's son. Amazingly respectable married father of two, but has
a mouth on him that makes his mother sound tame. His kids are both cute as buttons.
-- Martin, to Jovian

Lucas is a rich playboy. Turns out he's Flora's son, although I guess they
managed to hide that fact from everyone 'til recently. And yes, he has
kids. He married Solace Vesper a couple years back, and some
smaller-than-usual number of months later they had a daughter, Hope, who is sweet and adorable and fun. Their son Philippe was born just a few months ago. Philippe's sweet, too, but he's not old enough to have much of a personality yet. Lucas himself is pretty entertaining, as you probably
know if you've spent any time around him. He likes to give the impression
of being a supreme layabout, but he's a good guy to have on your side.
He's done some excellent negotiating on his trading voyages.
-- Folly, to Aisling

"Tell me about Flora's daughter."

"His name is Lucas and he's good at having everyone underestimate him."

"You know, I think I met him once, at one of her parties in shadow. He
fooled me. He's got kids?"

"Yeah, he's married. The girl's really sweet, but Christ, her mother, Lady
Vesper..."
-- Martin and Random on Lucas
