Family
|
When you have been raised as the future Marquis de Saint Cyr, under the ancien regime and - dammit - French - you have a pride in your lineage that isn't going to be much boosted by being told that you possess Amberite blood. After all, that can only be traced back two generations. Lucas can trace his ancestors on his father's side to the Merovignans and, apocraphally, to Jesus Christ .
But, Lucas is still very much (and perhaps unexpectedly) a family man ...
|
Solace
Vesper St. Just
The daughter and heiress of Lord Vesper, a life peer whose title
was granted by Oberon, Solace married to Lucas and is the mother
of his daughter Hope and his son Philippe. Her mother, Lady Vesper,
has used Solace's position to advance her own social ambitions.

Flora
is played by Michelle Pfeiffer

Flora
Flora, Lucas's mother, is resolutely apolitical, which means
she offers her support to whomever appears to be ahead in the
family game at the moment. She was a staunch supporter of the
late King Eric, and served as Corwin's warder during his exile
in shadow, but now appears to have made peace with the latter.
She commanded a company of archers under Benedict.
Flora has helped to prepare Random's coronation festivities.
What role she will play in the regime of a brother who does
not favor her is unclear.
|
Hope
Hope is perhaps the best-loved member of the family in Amber.
The fact that she arrived on the scene surprisingly soon after
her parents' marriage has been politely ignored by everyone but
the busybodies. Her doting father spares no expense and trouble
to have her taught all the skills and graces appropriate for a
Princess of Amber.

Philippe
is played by John

|
Philippe
Philippe is the younger of Lucas' two children. Although he's
hardly old enough to have formed a personality of his own yet,
he is almost as well-loved as his older sister.
|
|
Gaston
Certainly, almost one of the family. Lucas' faithful and long-suffering
valet. A lugubrious face and manner. Lucas suspects him of a
certain low wit, but Gaston will not admit to such a thing.
He
always addresses Lucas as "M'sieur".

Nanny
Starch is played by Wendy Hiller

Nanny
Starch
Solace's old Nanny now cares for Hope and Philippe. Lucas attributes
her presence on his staff to the wishes of his mother-in-law.
Lucas and Nanny Starch are in the habit of exchanging the slightly
edged looks of opponents who have taken each other's measure
and do not care to come to cuffs too often, unless they are
wholly sure of their ground.

Pert
Pert is Solace's page, a present to her from Lucas on their wedding
day. Lucas found the boy in a half-forgotten Shadow, when he attempted
to pick Lucas's pocket. With anyone else, he might have succeeded.
Lucas took a whimsical fancy to the boy and brought him back to
Amber. He is, on the whole, a good page, but neither Lucas nor
Solace have yet broken him of the habit of picking pockets. Still,
as Lucas points out, he is getting better at giving things back. |
