About the game
Winter Chills is a online role-playing game, played by email - otherwise known as a pbem.
It is set in the universe created by George RR Martin in his novel sequence A Song of Fire and Ice, of which four volumes have so far been published. The role playing game has been created, with Martin's approval, by Guardians of Order.
We are using this as the core of our game, and using Guardians of Order's tri-stat system.
Game Setting
The events of the game take place sometime before the beginning of A Game of Thrones. Certain details from the official story have been used, but as a whole this is a work of fiction and should not be considered canonical to George R. R. Martin’s world. Rather, it is an extrapolation for the role-playing game. Certain elements have also been taken from a scenario created by Guardians of Order - Bonds of Blood and Honour, written by Jason Durall.
The setting of Winter Chills is in the North (the area under the rulership of the Starks, based at Winterfell). It will involve two noble Houses. The time period is before Eddard Stark is named Hand to King Robert Baratheon. There will also be characters (who may be PCs or NPCs) based in a village between the two.
The first is House Hardy, a minor (but very ancient) noble house in the North, located at the northern edge of the wolfswood governed by House Stark, and the second is House Draupaud, also minor (but very recent), located on the northwest shores of the Long Lake, also within the Stark domain.
The village, Marshend, is on the southern shores of the Long Lake.
We have an active game wiki, maintained by the players and the GM, which includes game logs.
House Hardy House History
House Hardy’s seat is Holdfast Castle, an ancient edifice partly built during the Age of the First Men, or so it is said. Blood of the First Men runs through the veins of many of Hardy.
House Holdings
Holdfast Castle is located on the northern edge of the Wolfswood but south of the mountains, set back from the Kingsroad.
The ancient castle is immense and in terrible condition, with crumbling walls and a huge weirwood in its midst. Despite this, Holdfast Castle has been a good home to the Hardys, and the location between the Wolfswood and the mountains means it has rarely been assailed.
Holdfast Castle’s walls include an inner castle sheltering a weirwood, stables, a small tower for the maester’s use, a barracks, a smithy, ample storehouses, and other features standard to a house’s seat.

House Draupaud House History
House Drapaud’s seat is Clearwater, a new fortified manor on the northwest shore shores of the Long Lake. It is the centre of a gift of lands made to Lord Steffan Draupaud for his loyal support of House Stark in the War of the Usurper. Originally a younger son of Lord Dustin of Barrowton, Lord Steffan took the name Draupaud from the previous Lord, who had died impoverished and without heirs.
House Holdings
Clearwater is located on the northwest shore of the Long Lake - a lake of startling purity and a rich green-blue colour. The fish are famed for their taste - and Clearwater fishcooks have a formidable reputation. The manor has a small weirwood, but Lord Steffan has brought north some of the beliefs of the Barrowlands. In addition to the weirwood, there are stables, a small tower for the maester’s use, a barracks, a smithy, ample storehouses, and other features standard to a house’s seat. All is in good condition.
